KNOX
Unlike other security solutions for Android, KNOX has been baked into the hardware, which helps prevent data from falling into the wrong hands. While there are plenty of software-based add-ons available, this solution addresses several major security issues in the Android ecosystem. “Knox is the first hardware-based security solution for Android,” says Jeff Bardin, chief intelligence officer at consultancy Treadstone 71.
In addition to providing secure boot, Knox devices will feature SE Android, an implementation of SE Linux developed by the NSA. They will also use TrustZone technology, built into the ARM Cortex-A processor. The companies are also working to comply with federal and department of defense guidelines when creating their software.
“Tonal spot” colors
Android users will soon be able to choose from three new “tonal spot” colors. These colors include Vibrant, Expressive, and Spritz. The “tonal spot” colors will allow users to add supplemental accent colors to their screens without compromising the monochromatic theme of the OS. Another new feature is the ability to pin search results to the home screen. This feature will allow users to quickly view all search results without leaving the home screen.
Google is working on improving the dynamic theme system introduced in Android 12 Beta. These themes can change the system colors and icon themes. While these themes are only available on Google’s Pixel smartphones for now, other manufacturers are working on similar technology, so the new features may become available on more phones in the future.
